Vega Theatre

Hampshire Based Theatre Makers

Welcome to Vega Theatre.  We’re a Hampshire based collective of theatre makers dedicated to producing theatre that is bold, original and trailblazing, selecting and bringing to life both the very best scripts with a focus on science, psychology and human conflict as well as championing new up and coming playwrites.  We make the kind of shows that are that little bit different.  The kind of shows that excite and challenge.  The kind of shows that stay with you and leave you thinking about what you just saw on the way home.

Our three founding members are all busy parents, so we juggle the demands of small people with creating our own art.  Theatre and parenthood are a tricky combination, so we decided to make our own work , on our terms.

We value authentic, imaginative stories, new writing, and are an inclusive and friendly bunch.  We want to inspire as many people as possible to watch live performance, so whether you’re an avid theatre goer or a theatre newbie, Vega welcomes you to be entertained by us.

Creatives

Vega Theatre consists of our three founding members Hannah, Jess and Chris.

HANNAH WOOD

PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/PERFORMER

Hannah teaches performing arts at Fareham College and has over 20 years of directing and performance experience behind her.  She has incredible vision and is a real actors director.  She is a similarly talented performer, and brings her own brand of comedy to her roles.  Hannah is the business brains behind Vega, and the one who makes the magic happen.  In her spare time, Hannah can be found charging around after her two year old, or going for walks with her rescue dog and husband.

JESSICA BLAKE

PRODUCER/PERFORMER/DIRECTOR

Jess is an alumni of Winchester University and has been performing professionally since graduating.  She has worked across pretty much all media including film, TV, radio drama, VoiceOver, podcasts and video games. Her career in theatre has seen her perform at Chichester Festival Theatre, the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringes, London’s Baron’s Court, The Cockpit and The Space theatres and various touring productions.  Jess can currently be seen playing the role of Sally in Prancer: A Christmas Tale on Now TV and Amazon Prime, and can be seen in this summer’s family movie Robin and the Hood for SKY.  When not working she is a wife, twin mum and self confessed crazy dog lady.

CHRIS MCKENZIE

PERFORMER/MARKETING

Chris is an incredible actor, his authentic and natural approach to any role he takes on make it look easy.  He is as at home with comedy as he is with drama.  Chris has nearly 20 years of performing experience behind him in as diverse productions as The History Boys, Macbeth, Last train to Nibroc, Wajdi Mauoad’s Scorched and more recently, with Hannah and Jess, a production of Lucy Prebble’s iconic drama The Effect.   Chris is also a talented musician and is lead vocalist and guitar for the band Beatles for Sale.  But most importantly, he is busy raising his beautiful family with his lovely partner.

All founders are integral cogs in the Vega Theatre machine and are involved in the selection of plays and the evolution of the company.
